Japanese Garden (日本庭園)

The Hamamoto family's property consists mainly of a Japanese garden, including a front garden (G2), an inner garden (G3), a courtyard (G4), an English garden (G5), and a back yard garden (under consideration). The building will be designed to allow visitors to experience the “wabi and sabi” of Japan.

The approach from the front gate to the main house on a gravel road. In the center, a tree with autumn leaves adds color.

The stone wall bordering the front yard on the left is neatly paved with Otaishi stones from 雨晴(Amaharashi).

Under this maple tree is where Mr. Hiroshi Tachi used to rest during the filming of a movie.

Karesansui (枯山水) front garden (G2)

The front garden (G2) facing the inner parlor. In the back, a large stone is positioned as a mountain, and stalactites are placed beside it. These stalactites are regarded as a waterfall. The garden is then considered a 枯山水(karesansui : dry landscape garden), which produces a stream of water coming to the front.

In the back is a 3m(10尺)stone lantern which type of an 奥の院(Okunoin :inner sanctuary type), and a 1.2m (4尺)snow stone lantern is placed on the left side of the front.

Okunohosomichi 奥の細道(G3)

A long and narrow Japanese garden is built as the Oku-no-Hosomich(奥の細道). On the Oku-no-Hosomichi, a stone wash basin is placed facing the garden which was called as 蹲踞(Tsukubai). At the back of the stone washbasin is a round stone lantern to light the washbasin. It is said to be a Momoyama style stone lantern.

There are two large stone lanterns. Two large stone lanterns, one in the shape of 善導寺形石燈籠(Zendoji Temple type stone lantern) and the other in the shape of 奥の院形石燈籠(Okuno-in type of stone lantern), are placed here.

Courtyard (G4)

”ハレ(Hare)” is a place for weddings and funerals, and "ケ(Ke)" is a place for daily life. This courtyard was created as a garden for  "ケ(Ke)"  everyday life. In the center of the courtyard is a pond surrounded by Ota stones from 雨晴(Ameharashi), and a stone lantern is placed in the middle of the pond.

A large maple tree and a 春日形燈籠(Kasuga-style stone lantern) are placed beside a storehouse with a floating roof.

The entire garden is covered with moss.

In summer, the floor is covered with white flowers of silver cupweed.

English Garden (G5)

Behind the storehouse is the English Garden (G5), a grassy area where people can gather for BBQs and other gatherings.

Back Yard Garden (Under consideration)

Former rice field site adjacent to English Garden (G5).

It is a large site with nothing on it at the moment, so it is very nice to have a Campfire!

(We have confirmed with the Himi Fire Department directly about the availability of the Campfire).

During the hot summer season, we also set up a swimming pool for the first time in 2024, which was very cool.
