Due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, we have suspended tours of the Hamamoto family house for a while.
On August 1, 2024, the Hamamoto Family Amimoto House reopened for tours as before.
Repairs to the damaged parts of the house have been partially made and will continue to be carried out.
Thanks to the warm-hearted encouragement of everyone, we have been able to reach this point.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Hamamoto House
The Amimoto (網元) is responsible for organizing the fishermen, and has managed the operation and management of the fishing industry by overseeing the procurement of fishing boats, nets, and other equipment.
The place name Himi in Toyama Prefecture is thought to be associated with “Kanburi (寒鰤)” . Himi's cold yellowtail fishing has a history of over 430 years. As a fisherman, the Hamamoto family has been passed down from generation to generation.
The house that was built as "Fisherman headqurters" after it was completely destroyed in the great fire of Tomari area about 110 years ago is still used by the 17th head of the family.
It is an old house with an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time, such as the large hall where successive fishermen wait for big catch flags, and the miso storehouse for making miso, which is indispensable for fishermen's rice.
It may be a place where something important for today's Human being remains.
